In the 1900s Texans recognize that they needed a highway system. The Federal road at led to the development of State highways department in the 19 16. This resulted in blank construction starting in the early 1920s, because Texas had received federal funds to build and maintain roads. Texas had over blank miles of pavemented roads by the end of the 1920s.
