Nearly all of the body's chemical reactions take place within the cells, specifically within the mitochondria. Mitochondria are the powerhouses of the cell where energy production occurs through processes such as cellular respiration. Additionally, many other chemical reactions responsible for synthesizing and breaking down molecules necessary for building new tissues also take place within the cells.
