At high temperatures, enzymes can become denatured, meaning they lose their shape and structure. This can cause the enzyme to no longer be able to bind to its substrate and catalyze a reaction effectively. In extreme cases, high temperatures can completely deactivate an enzyme, rendering it non-functional.
