The uterus is a pear-shaped organ located in the pelvis of a woman's reproductive system. It is also known as the womb and its main function is to house and nourish a developing fetus during pregnancy. The lining of the uterus thickens each month in preparation for a potential pregnancy and sheds if a pregnancy does not occur, resulting in menstruation.
