The Albany Movement involved a diverse group of individuals and organizations, including African American residents of Albany, Georgia, civil rights activists such as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Rev. Ralph Abernathy, local churches, the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC). The movement also affected the white power structure in Albany, including local government officials and business leaders.
