Andrew Jackson was strongly opposed to the treaty between the Cherokee Nation and the U.S. government. He believed that the Native American tribes, including the Cherokee, should be removed from their land and relocated west of the Mississippi River. Jackson viewed the treaty as just another obstacle in his goal of Indian removal and was determined to enforce his policy despite any opposition.
