Initially, my impression of the narrator Josh was that of a talented and confident basketball player who was fiercely competitive. In the poem "dribble," Josh describes his love for the game and his skills on the court, reinforcing this initial impression. However, as the novel progresses, I began to see a more vulnerable side to Josh through poems like "injury" and "foul," where he grapples with setbacks and personal struggles. These moments illustrate his resilience and growth as a character, changing my perception of him from just a skilled athlete to a relatable and multidimensional individual. Overall, witnessing Josh navigate both triumphs and tribulations throughout the novel has deepened my connection to his character and allowed me to appreciate the complexities of his journey.
