Año Viejo is a traditional effigy or doll made out of old clothes and stuffed with paper or sawdust. It represents the old year, symbolizing the end of the past year and the beginning of a new one. Año Viejo is burned at midnight on New Year's Eve to symbolize letting go of the past and starting fresh in the new year. It is a popular custom in many Latin American countries to celebrate the coming of the new year.
