In both systems, power is concentrated in the hands of a single leader or a small group of individuals, allowing for limited to no political opposition or dissent. Both types of governments often suppress civil liberties, control the media, and tightly regulate all aspects of society. However, totalitarian governments take these characteristics to the extreme, seeking total control over every aspect of public and private life. In essence, while a dictatorship may allow for some limited freedoms or opposition, a totalitarian government seeks to exert complete dominance and control over its citizens.
