Hamilton's party included Federalists, who were generally made up of wealthy businessmen, bankers, and merchants, as well as those who supported a strong central government and a national bank. Additionally, many supporters of Hamilton's party were members of the Northern elite, including many lawyers and politicians from the New England states.
