The function of a stomata is to regulate the exchange of gases (particularly oxygen and carbon dioxide) between the plant and its surroundings. Stomata are small pores located on the surface of plant leaves and stems that open and close in response to various environmental cues, such as light intensity, humidity, and carbon dioxide levels. This allows the plant to take in carbon dioxide for photosynthesis and release oxygen and water vapor as byproducts. Additionally, stomata help regulate the water balance within the plant by controlling the rate of transpiration.
