Mansa Musa's great accomplishment was his pilgrimage to Mecca in 1324-1325, during which he distributed so much gold and brought so much wealth to the cities he passed through that he unintentionally caused an economic crisis in the regions he visited. This pilgrimage also helped spread knowledge about the wealth and power of the Mali Empire throughout the Islamic world.
