Primary consumers and examples

Primary consumers are organisms that consume producers, which are typically plants or algae. They are considered the second trophic level in a food chain or food web.

Examples of primary consumers include:

1. Herbivores such as deer, rabbits, cows, and goats that eat plants
2. Insects such as grasshoppers, caterpillars, and beetles that feed on plants
3. Grazing animals such as zebras, giraffes, and antelopes that consume grasses and other vegetation
4. Zooplankton in aquatic ecosystems that consume phytoplankton and other small organisms
5. Rabbits, squirrels, and mice that eat seeds and fruits from plants.
