One of the darker actions examined in a story from this unit is the murder of King Duncan in Shakespeare's play "Macbeth". The action is prompted by Macbeth's ambition to become king and his wife Lady Macbeth's manipulation and persuasion. Macbeth's intentions are driven by his desire for power and he is willing to commit the ultimate sin in order to achieve his goal.

If Macbeth were able to overcome his darker impulse and indulge a higher intention, the story would take a completely different turn. Perhaps he would realize the error of his ways and seek redemption for his actions. He could choose to step down from his bloody path and find a more righteous way to fulfill his ambitions. This would lead to a different outcome for not only Macbeth himself, but for all the characters involved in the tragic events that unfold in the play. The story would have a more hopeful and redemptive tone, rather than the tragic and dark ending that it currently has.
