Sentence 3-5: analyse the musical elements you have used to create mood/style. Eg. Pitch, duration, texture, timbre, dynamics. Select 1-2 to explore in response. STEPS:

• Identify – element (eg. TEXTURE)
- Describe – one specific example (added layers in section A-B over time, and then took them away in outro)
- Explain- the impact on meaning/mood/style (this enhanced the tension as the layers grew, and clearly communicated the Minimalist style)

Extras (A/B criteria):
• Identify, Describe and Explain the composing devices used. Eg. Minimalist techniques- repetition, ostinato, phasing, additive composition, drone, classical instrumentation + technology.
- Make sure to link to Minimalist style/meaning- eg. “The original ostinato is added in section B through the technique of additive composition. This creates contrast with Section A and develops the previous ideas because it has become the new central idea of the section.”

In my composition, I used dynamics to create a sense of tension and release. For example, in the climax of the piece, I built up the dynamics gradually by increasing the volume and intensity of the instruments. This created a feeling of anticipation and excitement before resolving back to a softer dynamic level in the resolution. By manipulating dynamics in this way, I was able to convey the emotional journey of the music and enhance the overall mood of the piece.
