When did eukaryotic cells evolve

Eukaryotic cells are believed to have evolved around 2.1 billion years ago, merging together through a process called endosymbiosis where a prokaryotic cell engulfed a smaller prokaryotic cell, which eventually became the mitochondria or chloroplasts found within eukaryotic cells. This event led to the development of more complex and specialized cells with a defined nucleus and membrane-bound organelles.
