Eric and Derek were best friends since they were in kindergarten. They did everything together, from playing video games to riding their bikes around the neighborhood. One weekend, Derek's parents went out of town, leaving him home alone. So, Eric's parents suggested that Derek stay over at their house for a sleepover.
Excited about spending the night at Eric's house, Derek packed his sleeping bag and favorite board games. The boys spent the day playing video games and building a fort in the living room. As the night drew near, they settled down to play board games in Eric's room.
Just as they were getting into a game of Monopoly, the lights flickered and the power went out. Eric and Derek groaned in disappointment. They were looking forward to playing video games all night.
"Now what do we do? Derek asked, looking around the dark room.
"We can still play board games," Eric suggested, pulling out a deck of cards.
As they started playing Go Fish, Derek couldn't help but feel bored. "This is so boring," he complained.
Eric laughed. "Come on, let's make the best of it. We can have fun with just the two of us. It'll be like a real old-fashioned sleepover.
Derek reluctantly agreed and, before they knew it, they were having a blast playing different board games in the dim light. They played Battleship, Snakes and Ladders, and even made up their own version of charades.
By the time the power came back on, the boys were exhausted but happy. They realized that they didn't need video games or fancy toys to have fun. All they needed was each other's company and a little bit of imagination.
As they drifted off to sleep in their makeshift fort, Eric and Derek knew that they had just had the best sleepover ever – even without power.
