Plan & Write: Activity 6

You are going to write a real or imagined story about an illness that you could have prevented.
To prepare, answer the questions below.
1. Start in the middle.
• Who was sick and what were they doing?
• What physical details can help the reader imagine the scene?
• How did you or they feel?
2. Go back to the beginning.
• What happened earlier that caused the illness?
3. Write the ending.
• What did you or someone in your story learn from these events?

Start in the middle:

Emily was sick in bed with a high fever, shivering under a pile of blankets. She was clutching a box of tissues in one hand while scrolling through her phone with the other, trying to distract herself from the pounding headache and body aches. The room was dimly lit with the only source of light coming from the small bedside lamp. The silence was broken only by the occasional sound of Emily's sniffles and coughs.

Go back to the beginning:
Earlier that week, Emily had been feeling run down and exhausted but brushed it off as just a result of her busy schedule. She had been pulling long hours at work, neglecting her regular exercise routine, and eating mostly fast food out of convenience. She had also been staying up late scrolling through social media instead of getting the rest she needed. All of these factors had weakened her immune system, making her more susceptible to getting sick.

Ending:
As Emily lay in bed, feeling miserable and regretting her carelessness, she realized the importance of taking care of her health. She vowed to make changes to her lifestyle, including getting enough sleep, eating nutritious meals, exercising regularly, and managing her stress levels. She also learned the importance of listening to her body and not ignoring warning signs of illness. Through this experience, Emily learned that prevention is key in maintaining good health and that the choices she makes on a daily basis can have a significant impact on her well-being.
