In the unit, I learned that Diego Velázquez was a Spanish painter who was considered one of the most important artists of the Spanish Golden Age. He became the leading artist at the court of King Philip IV and was known for his innovative use of light and shadow, as well as his ability to capture the expressions and emotions of his subjects. Velázquez is perhaps best known for his masterpiece, "Las Meninas," a complex and enigmatic work that has been hailed as one of the greatest paintings in Western art history. Overall, I learned that Velázquez was a highly influential artist who had a profound impact on the development of Baroque art.
