The statement "Slavery would be abolished in all states" was not part of the Compromise of 1850. Instead, the Compromise of 1850 included provisions such as the admission of California as a free state, the creation of the territories of New Mexico and Utah with the question of slavery to be decided by popular sovereignty, the passage of a stronger Fugitive Slave Law, and the resolution of border disputes between Texas and New Mexico.
