Without decomposers, dead plants and animals would not be broken down and recycled back into the ecosystem. This would lead to a buildup of organic matter, disrupting nutrient cycles and causing a decline in overall biodiversity. Eventually, the ecosystem would become overwhelmed with dead material and unable to support life.
