Explain why you choose each of the 4 steps.

The 2 steps that are my strongest traits is:
Step 2: Be attentive, but relaxed.
Step 5: Don't interrupt and don't impose your "solutions."

The 2 steps that I need to work on is:
Step 4: Listen to the words and try to picture what the speaker is saying.
Step 7: Ask questions only to ensure understanding.

I choose Step 2 (Be attentive, but relaxed) because I am naturally good at maintaining focus and attention during conversations. I believe that being attentive shows respect and helps me fully understand what the speaker is trying to communicate. Additionally, being relaxed helps me to remain open-minded and approach the conversation with a calm demeanor, making it easier for the speaker to feel comfortable sharing their thoughts.

I choose Step 5 (Don't interrupt and don't impose your "solutions") because I believe in the importance of allowing the speaker to express themselves fully without any interruption. I understand that everyone has their own unique perspectives and solutions, and it is essential to let them share their thoughts without imposing my own ideas. This step shows respect for the speaker's opinions and demonstrates active listening.

I need to work on Step 4 (Listen to the words and try to picture what the speaker is saying) because sometimes I find myself focusing more on the surface-level content of what the speaker is saying rather than trying to understand the deeper meaning or emotions behind their words. By actively listening and trying to visualize what the speaker is communicating, I can improve my empathy and better understand their perspective.

I also need to work on Step 7 (Ask questions only to ensure understanding) because I have a tendency to ask questions to clarify my own thoughts or to steer the conversation in a certain direction. Instead, I need to focus on asking questions that will help me better understand the speaker's perspective and ensure that I have grasped their message accurately. This will improve my communication skills and show the speaker that I genuinely care about their thoughts and opinions.
