Types of planets and their characteristics

There are several types of planets found in the universe, each with their own unique characteristics. Some of the common types of planets include:

3. Ice giants: Similar to gas giants, ice giants are composed primarily of volatile substances like water, ammonia, and methane. They have a smaller core surrounded by thick atmospheres. Uranus and Neptune are considered ice giants.

4. Super-Earths: Super-Earths are rocky planets that have a mass higher than Earth's but lower than that of gas giants. They can have a variety of compositions and may include substantial amounts of water, gases, or both.

5. Dwarf planets: Dwarf planets are not considered full-fledged planets due to their smaller size and inability to "clear their orbit" by dominating the region they reside in. They are generally spherical in shape and are usually found in the outer regions of the solar system. Pluto and Eris are examples of dwarf planets.

6. Exoplanets: These are planets that orbit stars outside of our solar system. Exoplanets come in a variety of sizes, compositions, and characteristics. They can range from being rocky to gaseous, and some may even have the potential to support life.
