Text 1: Pollution in Our Oceans

1

Our oceans have a big problem. They are full of pollution. Pollution is anything that makes our Earth dirty or unhealthy.

2

Every year about a billion pounds of new trash ends up in our oceans. Some trash, such as plastics, takes hundreds of years to break down. This means that the trash stays in the ocean for a very long time. Ocean animals often eat the trash by accident. For example, sea turtles get sick from eating plastic bags they mistake for jellyfish.

3

Our oceans are filling up with trash. We have to do something to protect our planet and its animals!
