In Saudi Arabia, the rulers follow the branch of Islam known as Sunni Islam. According to the textbook, people who follow this branch believe in the importance of following the example and teachings of the Prophet Muhammad as well as the four caliphs who succeeded him. They also believe in the authority of the Quran and the Hadith (sayings and actions of the Prophet) as the primary sources of guidance in their religious practices.
