In the Dragon Ball series, Bardock, who is Goku's father, becomes a Super Saiyan at some point. In the TV special "Dragon Ball Z: Bardock - The Father of Goku," Bardock gains the ability to transform into a Super Saiyan after witnessing the destruction of his fellow Saiyan warriors and planet Vegeta by Frieza. In his Super Saiyan form, Bardock's hair turns golden and his power level dramatically increases.
