In Act IV of Romeo and Juliet, Friar Lawrence's advice to Juliet concerning her parents' wishes to marry Paris is for her to trust in him and take a potion that will make her appear dead for 42 hours. He assures her that this plan will give her the freedom to escape her arranged marriage to Paris and reunite with Romeo.
