Some of the students at Georgia Middle School like to walk to and from school. They always walk unless it rains. Let d be the distance in miles from a student's home to the school. Write two different expressions that represent how far a student travels by walking in a two week period if there is one rainy day each week.

If there is one rainy day each week, then there are two rainy days in a two-week period.

Expression 1:
Distance traveled in a day by walking = d
Number of days walked in a two-week period = 14 - 2 = 12 (because 2 days were rainy)
Total distance traveled in a two-week period = 12d

Expression 2:
Distance traveled in a first week by walking = d * 6 (since there are 14 days in two weeks and 2 of them are rainy, there are 12 days of walking in the two-week period, which is split equally into 6 days in the first week and 6 days in the second week)
Distance traveled in a second week by walking = d * 6
Total distance traveled in a two-week period = 6d + 6d = 12d
