Congress is really powerful, but it can't just do whatever it wants because there are some limits on its power. I'm gonna tell you about three of these limits and how they stop Congress from going cray cray.
First, there's the Constitution, which is like our rulebook for how the government should work. It tells Congress what it can and can't do. For example, Congress can't make laws that mess with people's rights, like freedom of speech or religion. This limit is important because it protects our individual freedoms and makes sure Congress doesn't get too bossy.
Another limit is the separation of powers. Our government is divided into three branches: Congress, the President, and the Supreme Court. Each has its own powers and can keep the others in check. For example, Congress can make laws, but the President can veto them if he thinks they're bad. This limit is important because it keeps Congress from having too much power and becoming like a dictatorship or something.
The third limit is the system of checks and balances. This is when each branch of government has some control over the others. Congress can pass laws, but the President can veto them, and the Supreme Court can say if they're constitutional or not. This limit is important because it makes sure no one branch gets all the power and can stop any crazy ideas that Congress might have.
Out of these three limits, I think the Constitution is the most important. It was made by our founding fathers to protect our rights and make sure the government stays fair. Without the Constitution, Congress could do whatever it wants and we would have no say in it. So, the Constitution is like our superhero that keeps Congress in line.
