John James Audubon was an American ornithologist, naturalist, and painter. He is best known for his studies and illustrations of North American birds, which were documented in his book "The Birds of America." Audubon's extensive collection of bird illustrations is considered one of the finest ornithological works ever completed. He lived from 1785 to 1851 and is often referred to as the "American Woodsman."
