The 13th Amendment to the United States Constitution officially abolished slavery and involuntary servitude, except as punishment for a crime, in all areas of the United States. It was ratified on December 6, 1865.

The 14th Amendment to the United States Constitution granted citizenship to all persons born or naturalized in the United States, including former slaves, and provided equal protection under the law. It was ratified on July 9, 1868.

The 15th Amendment to the United States Constitution prohibited the denial of the right to vote based on race, color, or previous condition of servitude. It was ratified on February 3, 1870.
