What did Muslims do on a haji?
They give wealth to the poor and needy.
They travel to the holy city of mecca.
They pray five times each day.
They fast during they day for a month.
Muslims perform several rituals and activities during Hajj (pilgrimage), including:
1. Ihram: Muslims enter a state of ritual purity by wearing special white garments known as ihram.
2. Tawaf: Pilgrims perform circumambulation of the Kaaba, the holiest shrine in Islam, by walking around it seven times in a counterclockwise direction.
3. Sa'i: Pilgrims walk between the hills of Safa and Marwa seven times, reenacting the search for water by Hagar, the wife of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham), when she was left in the desert with her infant son Ismail (Ishmael).
4. Wuquf: Pilgrims stand in vigil during the Day of Arafah, which is considered the most important day of Hajj. They seek forgiveness from God, supplicate, and engage in reflection and prayer.
5. Stoning of the Devil: Pilgrims throw pebbles at three pillars called jamarat, symbolizing the act of rejecting Satan and temptation.
6. Sacrifice: An animal, typically a goat, sheep, or cow, is sacrificed to commemorate Ibrahim's near-sacrifice of his son Ismail, and the meat is distributed among the poor and pilgrims.
7. Halaq/Taqsir: Pilgrims either shave their heads (halaq) or trim their hair (taqsir) to symbolize the end of the pilgrimage and the removal of any worldly attachments.
It is worth noting that while charity and prayer are essential aspects of Islam, they are not specific to Hajj and are practiced by Muslims throughout the year.
