The political party that had governors in charge of Georgia for more than 100 years was the Democratic Party. From the Reconstruction era following the Civil War in the 1870s, through the Jim Crow era, and up until the 2000s, the Democratic Party dominated Georgia politics and held the governor's office for an extended period.
