Define absorption of radiation

Absorption of radiation refers to the process in which electromagnetic waves (such as light, X-rays, or microwaves) transfer their energy to a material or medium. When radiation encounters a substance, it can be absorbed, transmitted, or reflected. In the case of absorption, the energy of the radiation is transferred to the atoms, molecules, or particles of the material, causing them to increase in energy and possibly undergo various changes or reactions. The absorbed energy can be converted into heat, chemical reactions, or other forms of energy. Different materials have different absorption properties, depending on their composition, structure, and the type of radiation being absorbed.
