In a mature embryo, the radical (also known as the embryo root) is responsible for anchoring the plant into the soil and absorbing water and nutrients. The radical is the first structure to emerge from the seed during germination, and it develops into the primary root of the plant. As the main root system develops, it provides a connection between the underground parts of the plant and the above-ground parts, facilitating the transfer of water, minerals, and other essential substances. Additionally, the radical helps in stabilizing the plant, preventing it from toppling over.
