The removal of Black legislators from the Georgia General Assembly during Reconstruction took place mainly in the state capital of Atlanta, Georgia. This occurred after the Compromise of 1877, which marked the end of Reconstruction and the withdrawal of federal troops from the South. Following this, white supremacist Democrats, known as "Redeemers," launched a campaign to regain control of state governments. In Georgia, they employed various tactics such as voter intimidation, fraud, and violence to suppress the Black vote and remove Black legislators from power.
