Sydney felt like a million butterflies were flying in her stomach. It was her first day at her new school, and she really didn't want to go. What if the other kids did not like her? What if she got lost?

Her mother dropped her off at the front door. Before her mom left, she gave Sydney a hug.
"Everything will be fine," she said. "You are such a sweet girl that you will make friends in no time. Just be yourself. Bye!"
Sydney waved as her mom drove off. She looked at the big school, and tears came to her eyes. She wanted to hide in the bushes by the door or run far away from there. Just then, a little girl walked up to her.
"Hi! I'm Beth," the girl said. "This is my first day here! Can you show me where the office is?"
"Sorry, I don't know," whispered Sydney. "This is my first day here, too."
"Neat! Now we can find the office together," Beth said. She seemed very excited to start school. "What do you say we help each other out today?"
"Okay." Sydney smiled. Her first day would be just great.
