Salt does not freeze in water. In fact, salt lowers the freezing point of water. When salt is added to water, it interferes with the formation of ice crystals and makes it harder for water molecules to come together and freeze. This property is often used to prevent ice from forming on roads and sidewalks during winter by spreading salt on the surfaces.
