What does the Law of Conservation of Energy state?

The Law of Conservation of Energy states that energy cannot be created or destroyed, but it can only be transformed from one form to another or transferred between objects. In other words, the total energy of a closed system remains constant over time. Energy may change from potential energy (stored energy) to kinetic energy (energy of motion), or from mechanical energy to thermal energy, electromagnetic energy, chemical energy, etc., but the total amount of energy in the system remains the same.
