The Law of Superposition states

the layers closest to the top are the oldest
There is no standard o consistent order to the layers
The layers closest to the top are younger
the layers are all the same age

The Law of Superposition states that in an undisturbed sequence of sedimentary rock layers, the layers closest to the top are the youngest, while the layers farther down are progressively older. This principle is based on the observation that in most cases, each layer of sediment is deposited on top of previously formed layers, resulting in a chronological stack. Therefore, the layers closer to the surface are younger, while those deeper down are older.
