Why are we making gametes

Gametes, which are specialized cells used for sexual reproduction, are necessary for the continuation of a species. They are produced through a process called meiosis, which results in haploid cells with half the number of chromosomes as the parent cell. When two gametes from different individuals combine during fertilization, they form a zygote with a complete set of chromosomes, leading to the development of a new organism. This process ensures genetic diversity within a population and allows for the transmission of genetic material to the next generation.
