René-Robert Cavelier, Sieur de La Salle, the French explorer, lived in various locations throughout his life. He was born on November 21, 1643, in Rouen, France. He later moved to Quebec, Canada, where he established a trading post. LaSalle also spent time exploring the Great Lakes region and the Mississippi River. He established a settlement called Fort Crèvecoeur in Illinois and later settled in Texas, where he established Fort St. Louis. LaSalle died in Texas in 1687.
