List three things that use light energy, and explain how they use it.

4th grade writing

1) Flashlight: A flashlight uses light energy to provide illumination in dark areas. When you turn on a flashlight, the energy from the batteries is converted into light energy, which is then emitted as a beam of light through the bulb or LED. This light helps us see and find our way in the darkness.

2) Solar panels: Solar panels use light energy from the sun to generate electricity. They are made up of photovoltaic cells that convert sunlight into electrical energy. When sunlight hits the surface of the solar panel, the energy in the light is absorbed by the photovoltaic cells, which then produce an electric current. This energy can be used to power various devices and appliances.

3) Photosynthesis in plants: Plants use light energy from the sun to carry out photosynthesis, a process by which they convert carbon dioxide and water into glucose and oxygen. The green pigment called chlorophyll present in plant cells captures light energy and uses it to produce glucose, which is the plant's food. This process also releases oxygen as a byproduct, which is essential for all living creatures on Earth.
