This example of a balloon filled with air being released and flying across a room is an illustration of Newton's Third Law of Motion, also known as the law of action-reaction. According to this law, for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. When the air is pushed out of the balloon due to its elastic potential energy, it exerts a force in one direction (action). In response, an equal and opposite force is exerted on the balloon, causing it to move in the opposite direction (reaction) and fly across the room.
