The Proclamation of 1763 was issued by the British government on October 7, 1763. This proclamation was a response to the recently ended Seven Years' War, also known as the French and Indian War, which had taken place between 1756 and 1763. Under this proclamation, the British sought to establish a boundary line along the Appalachian Mountains, prohibiting colonial settlement to the west of it. The intention was to prevent further conflicts between Native American tribes and colonists, as well as to consolidate British control over the colonies. While the Proclamation of 1763 was met with mixed reactions from colonists, it marked an important milestone in the deteriorating relationship between Britain and its American colonies, ultimately leading to increased tensions and ultimately the American Revolution.
