The cricket said to the ants, "Why are you working so hard?"
But the ants kept working. "We must store food for the winter when the ground is cold and white with snow."
"There's lots of time left. I'd rather sing," said the cricket.
The days passed and summer turned to fall. One day the cricket woke shivering. The field was covered with snow. The ground was frozen and he had nothing to eat. He went to a small house with a light in the window and asked for some food. One of the ants came to the door.
"I remember you," said the ant. "You were singing all summer when we were working and storing food."
"I was filling the air with my songs and dancing," said the cricket.
"Well, try dancing and singing now!" said the ant.
