In 3-5 sentences, explain why complex solutions come in conjugate pairs. Consider the structure of the quadratic formula in your response. Answer like a 11th grader.

Complex solutions come in conjugate pairs because of the structure of the quadratic formula. In the quadratic formula, there is a part where we take the square root of a discriminant. If the discriminant is negative, we end up with an imaginary number. However, since the square root of the negative number exists in pairs, the complex solutions also exist in pairs, one being the conjugate of the other.
