Cougars were once widely found across that region. However, they were hunted in large numbers in the nineteenth century. Still, some people say that a small population of eastern cougars remains. A Pennsylvania hunter claimed that he saw an eastern cougar in June 2010. He said that the cat was reddish-brown and had a long tail.
