Muhammad fled Mecca in a desperate situation known as the Hijrah in the year 622 AD. The Quraysh, the powerful tribe of Mecca, were hostile towards Muhammad and his followers due to his teachings of monotheism and his challenge to their polytheistic beliefs. Faced with intense persecution and threats to his life, Muhammad made the decision to leave Mecca for the city of Medina, where he found support and established the first Islamic community.
