During the Russian Revolution, the political party that formed the new Russian government was the Bolshevik Party. The Bolsheviks, under the leadership of Vladimir Lenin, overthrew the provisional government in October 1917 and established a socialist regime in Russia. They later changed their name to the Communist Party of the Soviet Union.
